Historical Moment PTIL
For my Historic Moment PTIL (Physics Things I Learned) I will be sharing my Historic Moment to give the Viewer (you) a link to the Google Document that I used as a brainstorming area and information I took from a article. Here is the link.
Now since hopefully you have read the document I have linked to this page I can continue on the Historic Moment PTIL. Instead of focusing on the Korean War I focused specifically on the time when my Grandfather joined the war. Although the timing of when he joined is not specifically known since I (his grandson) didn't ask much about his time in the military. I only heard bits and pieces from my other family members (ie: cousins, uncles, aunts, my grandmother). From what I recollected my Grandfather joined the military during WW2. I made the calculations and he would be around 16-17 during the ending year of the war. He was an American Citizen straight from birth and the recruiting age was younger then we have now which starts at 17 (with parent agreement first). I must confess that I don't know if he worked on Radar in WW2 or in the Korean War, but I do know for a fact that he worked on Radar. |
Now onto the Physics part of this writing piece. Radar stations. The use of echolocation like what bats use, but on a larger scale.
Coin Drop PTIL
The Coin drop is a challenge. A challenge to get as much coins inside of a hollow object, but it is also a good example of Inertia. So to see how inertia works, us the students tried this challenge
For my attempt at the challenge I used Ketchup packets and a packet of ranch as the coins and 3-4 napkins as the divider between the two types of cups.

The next cup I tried was a ceramic mug. Being much heavier and having a much wider base it would serve perfectly for a test subject. I first used 4 ketchup packets just like the image above to make sure it was good enough for the challenge. Then I added one more ketchup packet before adding a packet of ranch. Seeing as the Ketchup Packets were much lighter then quarters it would be easier to get them all inside of the cup.

The Seat of a Ghost - Contemporary Moment PTIL
For the last moment, we did a contemporary moment. One that was in our lives that impacted us. I chose a series of moments that I shared with my grandfather and family. These moments being connected to this chair that he sat in all the time. Since I needed to choose a specific moment I chose the day of 2/03/16.
